Technical Recommendations

Although the AAA's website will generally function well with various computers (PC/Apple), operating systems (Windows/Macintosh), Internet browsers (IE/Netscape/Safari/FireFox), and connections (DSL/Cable/Dial-Up), the following is recommended for optimal performance: PC with Windows XP or Vista, Internet Explorer 6.0+, Broadband Internet Connection (DSL/Cable).

It is also recommend that users disable any external pop-up blockers provided by your Internet Service Provider.

Enabling Cookies and JavaScript in Your Browser

A. Internet Explorer 6.0+ Users

To enable cookies, please follow these steps:

    1. Select Internet Options from the "Tools" menu of your browser. The Internet Options dialog opens.
    2. Locate the Settings area of the Privacy tab.
    3. Click the Advanced button in this area to bring up another window. Ensure that the override automatic cookie handling and always allow session cookies are enabled. Also ensure that the radio buttons Accept are highlighted. Click OK.

To enable JavaScript:

    1. From the Internet Options dialog box, select the Security tab
    2. Click the Custom Level button located near the bottom of the box.
    3. In the Security Settings window, scroll down to Scripting and under Active Scripting select the Enable button. Click OK.

It is also suggested that you delete your Temporary Internet Files (clear the cache) and make sure that your browser it set to automatically update web pages upon each visit:

    1. From the Internet Options dialog box, select the General tab
    2. Click the Delete Files button located near the middle of the box, then click OK . (In IE 7, click the Delete button under Browsing History.)
    3. Click the Settings button to the right and make sure Automatically is selected, then click OK.
    4. Click OK to close all Internet Options windows.

B. Internet Explorer 5.0/5.5 Users

To enable cookies follow these steps: 

    1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu. The Internet Options dialog opens.
    2. Locate the Security tab and left click.
    3. Click on Custom Level .
    4. Scroll down to the Cookies area and insure that ENABLE is highlighted in both options.

To enable JavaScript:

    1. Scroll down to the Scripting section of the same window.
    2. Select the Enable radio button under Active Scripting
    3. Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog.

C. Netscape Communicator 6.2

To enable cookies and JavaScript , follow these steps:

    1. Click on 'Edit' in the browser tool bar.
    2. Then, click on 'Preferences.'
    3. In the 'Preferences' section, you will see several items in the 'Category' window.
    4. Click on 'Privacy and Security '.
    5. Then, click on 'Enable all cookies' .
    6. Click on 'Advanced' .
    7. Click on 'Clear Memory Cache' and 'Clear Disk Cache '.
    8. Below the 'Clear Disk Cache' button, make sure that the: "Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network," is highlighted on, "Every time I view the page."

D. Netscape Communicator 7.02

To enable cookies and JavaScript, follow these steps:

    1. Click Edit and then move your mouse to Preferences and left click.
    2. Now click the arrow next to the Privacy & Security section.
    3. Left click on the word Cookies in the menu that appears.
    4. Make sure the radio button Enable all Cookies is highlighted.
    5. To enable JavaScript, click the arrow next to the word Advanced .
    6. In the menu that appears left click on scripts & plugins .
    7. In the window that appears make sure that the checkbox Enable JavaScript for Navigator is checked .
    8. Click OK to exit this. Restart your Browser for this to take effect.

E. Netscape 7.2

To enable cookies and JavaScript, follow these steps:

    1. Open Netscape and click on the Edit menu and go down to 'Preferences'.
    2. A "Preferences" dialogue box will appear.
    3. In the "Category" box on the left side, double click "Privacy & Security"
    4. From the drop-down menu that appears, click "Cookies"
    5. Click "Enable all cookies" from the list that appears on the right
    6. In the "Category" box on the left, double click "Advanced"
    7. On the right side, make sure both "Enable Java" and "Enable native object scripting" are checked
    8. Under "Advanced" on the left side, click "Scripts & Plug-ins"
    9. On the right side, make sure that "Navigator" is checked
    10. Under "Advanced" on the left side, click "Cache"
    11. On the right side, under "Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network," click "Every time I view the page."
    12. Click "OK"
    13. Restart Netscape for the changes to take effect.

AOL Users

Enabling Javscript :

    1. Open your browser. From the menu bar, select My AOL | Preferences.
    2. Click on the WWW icon. In the Internet Zone section, if any setting other than Custom is selected, JavaScript is already enabled already. If Custom is selected, you must make sure that JavaScript is enabled.
    3. Click on the Settings button.
    4. In the Security Settings section, scroll down to the Scripting section, and under Active scripting, select either Prompt (which will present you with a dialog box every time active scripting is encountered) or Enable (which will fully enable active scripting without user interaction).
    5. Press OK to close the Security Settings window, click Yes in the resulting warning box if changes were made, and then click OK to save all changes.
    6. Close the Internet Options window.

Enabling Cookies: In AOL are automatically enabled and cannot be Turned off.

Cookies can be enabled following your browsers normal method (refer to either IE or Netscape) however, if that does not work please refer to AOL's Technical Support, at: 1-800-827-6364.  (Note: AOL does not provide online documentation about enabling cookies for their web browser, and has chosen to handle this on a per customer basis.)
