Thomas Penfield Jackson Appointed to AAA's Panel of Neutrals

Former U.S. District Court Judge Presided Over Microsoft Antitrust Case

NEW YORK, July 6, 2005-Thomas Penfield Jackson, a partner with Jackson & Campbell in Washington D.C., has been appointed to the American Arbitration Association's (AAA) Panel of Neutrals, announced William K. Slate II, President and CEO of the AAA, the world's leading provider of conflict management and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services.

Mr. Jackson was a U.S. District Judge for the District of Columbia U.S. District Court from 1982 until his recent retirement from the bench. Mr. Jackson presided over the Microsoft antitrust case and also heard the drug trial of former District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry, the public disclosure case over former Senator Packwood's diaries, and the case involving the constitutionality of the presidential line-item veto.

Prior to accepting his judgeship, he was a partner at Jackson & Campbell, where he specialized in title insurance law and antitrust, as well as in defending physicians and hospitals in malpractice suits. In August 2004 Mr. Jackson returned to Jackson & Campbell as Of Counsel.

"We are pleased that Mr. Jackson has joined the AAA's commercial panel of arbitrators and mediators," said Mr. Slate. "His experience both in legal practice and on the bench uniquely qualifies him to hear a wide range of cases."

Mr. Jackson received his A.B. in government from Dartmouth College in 1958 and an LL.B. from Harvard in 1964. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association (president, 1982-1983), and fellow of the American College Trial Lawyers.
