Companies engaged in business online need conflict management and resolution options to help guard against potential damage from the costs of resolving online business disputes.

In addition to supplementary procedures to the Commercial Arbitration Rules and Mediation Procedures for online related disputes, the AAA provides a highly specialized panel of arbitrators who are well-versed in Internet-related business issues and dispute resolution. Internet disputes typically relate to the provision of goods and services over the web, domain name ownership, and online privacy.

Our domain name dispute resolution procedures govern disagreements related to the use of Top-Level Domain, (TLD) dot-US (.US) domain name extensions and are used in conjunction with the Neustar Nexus policy and rules (deals with entitlement to utilize a .US address) and the usTLD policy and rules (deals with domain name ownership).

Separately, the AAA's Commercial Rules and Mediation Procedures are applied when online privacy-related disputes result from violations of European Union (EU) privacy laws related to the transfer of personal customer or employee data between Europe and the United States. Under what is known as the Safe Harbor program, instituted by the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. companies now have a framework for crafting agreements that will avoid violations of E.U. policies regarding cross-border online privacy.
